My Life is NOT Supposed To Be This Way with Celia Spallino — What To Do When Life Doesn’t Go As Planned

GOD, THIS IS NOT HOW IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE.

I know, I know…It’s not supposed to be this way.

Have you started despising your season of waiting? Do you look around and see everyone else living the life “you should be living?” Feeling disappointed in God? Feeling like you see God bless others, but think to yourself “not me”? Feeling stuck or not “where you should be” on your ideal timeline?

Does this sound like the thoughts in your head?

It sounds like all of us at times. After all, we are HUMAN. But let’s gain some God-perspective together!

Hey everyone, meet my baby sister, Celia Marie — my world changing, peacemaking, mission-focused, music-making (harpist AND pianist), and joy-bringing sissy! Although Celia is only 19-years-old, she is FULL of the fruits of the Spirit and an old soul with a lot of wisdom to give. So of course, I had to have her on the show — and share this particular conversation…which beware: it’s a super raw sister-to-sister chat about feeling a sense of lack in life.

Recently, Celia went through her very first (and hopefully last) breakup. If you didn’t already know, I went through a tough year of relationship-end healing as well. It was a rough year for BOTH of us.

During these seasons of waiting and healing, we found ourselves crying out to God saying, “It’s not supposed to be this way!” as well as talking through our disappointments of our perceived “how life is supposed to be timeline” together.

For her, it’s “supposed to be” college, boyfriend, ministry, marriage, career… Sounds about right.

For me, it’s “supposed to be” career, husband, home, baby, white picket fence… But it’s not our realities.

OUR IDEAS OF WHAT OUR LIVES “SHOULD” BE RIGHT NOW ARE DIFFERENT FROM WHAT HAS ACTUALLY HAPPENED. So what do we do? Do we throw a pity party OR embrace the season of waiting and dance in the rain? Maybe you feel you’re at the same crossroads…WHAT WILL YOU CHOOSE TO DO?

Recently, Celia read “It’s Not Supposed to be This Way” by an incredible woman of faith, Lysa TerKeurst. In this episode, we have a casual conversation that dives deep into the realest feelings of disappointment, disillusionment, and what healing ACTUALLY looks like. Celia shares the wisdom she learned from this season of life and I share how God-perspective changes it all.

God-perspective is gratitude for who God is, what God has done, and being thankful in advance for what God will do. Gratitude allows us to have peace in the NOW. Since gratitude helps us to appreciate our unique path, let’s look back at our bumps in the road, be thankful for the uncomfortable times of re-paving, and appreciate the parts of our lives that are now smooth.

When we have God and gratitude, we have all that we need and all is well. It can be well with your soul too. It’s okay to feel all the feelings, but let’s talk it out together, expect great things in the future, and ENJOY THE NOW RIGHT NOW!
