At Age 18 or 38, being a Mom is Challenging with Cassie Marie — Being a Young Mother — Handling Mom Guilt — Fitness as a Mom

“Her life is over. She might as well slit her wrists if she decides to have the baby…” These are the words 18-year-old Cassie heard when she told her family she was pregnant. Regardless of the lack of support — in her heart, Cassie had already chosen life for Penelope, so nothing could stop her!

I am so excited to dig into this show today because when I first saw Cassie Marie speak up and share her deepest pain at Pays to Be Brave, I knew her story of being a teenage mother and overcoming perfectionism as a mom would help others heal.

Cassie is a certified nutrition coach and personal trainer who works with women, mostly mothers, to help them get over their crap and work through the mom-guilt so they can finally take their health and wellness to the next level without feeling selfish…Because whether you are age 18 or 38, being a mom is challenging!

She is a mom of three who had to balance her unwavering ambition with all the expectations placed on her in her “MOM ROLE” …all while battling rapid cycling bipolar disorder. It wasn’t until about 18 months ago that she had her most severe bipolar episode. Through that, she learned that putting herself on the back burner because she was a “MOM” was the most devastating thing that she could have done for herself…and by extension, her family.

Because of all the hurdles Cassie has overcome from being young mother to struggling with being the “perfect mom,” her message is to empower women not to sacrifice their sense of self and to continue setting and achieving goals so they can show up as a light for themselves and for those around them.

Show Highlights:

Cassie’s teenage pregnancy
Advice for young, teenage mothers
How to love and forgive even when family doesn’t support you
How to cope with “Mom Guilt”
How to BLEND being a mom with being yourself
Taking time for fitness is necessary time for you

EAT PRAY LOVE in REAL LIFE with Eidit Choochage – A Healing Journey to Bali – Signs & Symbols from Loved Ones – Grief Processing – Anxiety & Depression Coping Skills

What happens when all hell seems to break loose and multiple loved ones pass away?

You either die or you grow.

Eidit chose to grow.

She thought about wanting to die when so many people that she loved unexpectedly passed away. But she didn’t really want to die. Eidit just wanted the pain to end. So she chose to heal so she could live fully again. An “EAT PRAY LOVE” journey of healing is often glamorized, but Eidit healed by coming face to face with her messy pain when she dedicated herself to a 12-week grieving journey.

Hello my enlightened friends! Today’s interview is a bit of an “EAT PRAY LOVE” real life story…and I know you will be inspired. If you didn’t already know, I want Enlightened the podcast to be a safe place for progressive, open minded Christian conversations that lead to hope (even if you aren’t religious at all). Okay, let’s get get on with the show!

Eidit Choochage is a licensed therapist in San Francisco, CA. After thirteen years in the mental health field serving people working through their trauma, Eidit quickly learned what it meant to be on the other side of the couch. In 2014, she witnessed her sister take her last breath at 36 years old due to breast cancer. Shortly after that, she lost her aunt. Eidit battled depression and anxiety afterwards, and sought her own therapy. She ultimately became her own client. In 2018, she committed to a 12 week healing journey. But just 5 weeks in, she received an unexpected call that her father passed away too. Dedicated to her healing journey, Eidit did not turn back. Instead, she booked a flight to Bali determined to accept and process her greatest loss. Now, Eidit is on a mission to serve and inspire other women to start their healing transformation journey through hosting retreats in Bali. Led by her faith in God and guardian angels, Eidit reminds us that when everything feels like the end in your life, it simply just isn’t…In fact, healing creates beautiful new beginnings.

Purity Culture Gave Me PTSD with “God is Grey,” Brenda Marie Davies

“Sophia, why am I a full grown adult and still feeling uncomfortable about sex, even if I feel I have gotten over purity culture?”

Let’s ask Brenda Marie Davies, host of the Youtube chanel and podcast, God is Grey.

If you’re a Christian, but open minded and love challenging indoctrinated ideas that you never chose to be yours (but are somehow in your head dictating your perspective on life) …and you’re ready to expand past this confined mindset…You are going to love this episode. If you weren’t raised in a strict religious household like my homeschooled self, you might want to stick around to get some perspective on it all. If you aren’t identifying as a progressive, open-minded human being, you might want to hit pause now and come back later…

On this week’s episode of ENLIGHTENED, I am honored to have an open dialogue with, progressive, freethinking, sex positive Christian influencer, Brenda Marie Davies. This girl is on fire for Jesus, but also a lover of people that the traditional church may have ostracized — and she isn’t afraid to stand up for what she believes in. I love watching her viral Youtube videos, and I know you will appreciate her perspective on the show.

Every time I consume Brenda’s content, I know more about God, myself, and understand my brain a little better…because she reveals how, as traditional Christians, the church may have indoctrinated us with concepts that have actually caused symptoms much like PTSD in our adult lives. Brenda is not only extremely well-researched and well-read before she creates a video, she is prayerful and intentional in covering topics from not only Biblical perspectives, but scientific and sociological perspectives as well. So let’s muse on these tough issues like why progressive Christians and traditionalists don’t seem to get along…and process why us 90s Christian kids (especially women) have developed anxiety and shame about sex!

Brenda always opens her show with this line, “Although I as a Christian believe that God resides in absolute truth, in black and white, we as people, are stuck here on planet earth contending with the grey. In church, grey areas often cause dissension, anger and even hate…but on this platform, I welcome open dialogue from a variety of opinion and differing belief systems.” And that’s just what we are going to do here.

YOU DESERVE REST, a Guided Meditation with Harp Music by the Seashore

Today’s show is a guided meditation to help you drift off into sleep when you feel like you have just too much on your mind to rest. Because even when it’s hard to hit the pause button, or you feel unworthy of taking a break, YOU ACTUALLY DESERVE REST.

This guided meditation was actually inspired by my own anxious thoughts…and the things I try to remember when I am coaxing my body and brain to stop frantically thinking and moving…and just rest. Because it’s so helpful for me, I thought it could be helpful to share with you.

Did you know your entire vibration resets in your sleep? Did you know that anytime you feel out of alignment or anxious, taking a nap can help you feel better and you will wake up in a higher, more positive state of being IF you make it your intention to fall asleep in peace.

So if you find your thoughts running away, breathe and tell yourself, “It’s good for me to rest and reset.” Breathe. Take deep breaths.

I’m so glad you’re taking this time for self-care. You deserve to feel better. You deserve peace and rest. You deserve to give your mind a break, your body a break, to be here right now — in the present moment with your body and your mind at ease. It’s good for your soul.

Between my intended pauses, take the time to soak into the silence. To feel your breath. To hear your breath. To be here now. To rest here now. To relax here now. To flow with the ocean.

Be present now. Only think of my voice and your breathe, and let the ocean and whimsical harp music pull you away into the horizon…fall deeply into this moment of rest now.

Let’s journey to the ocean shall we. I’ll take my harp. You can rest in the sand. There’s nothing to do here, but drift away…

I hope you’ve enjoyed the show today. I am thinking that I will throw in a guided meditation or affirmation every other month, between interviews. I love writing these meditations and creating soothing sounds with my harp. Also, I want to say a special thank you to Tim Kahn for recording the “Atlantic Ocean Waves” audio that I borrowed from this source: https://freesound.org/people/tim.kahn/sounds/197714/

I create these for you, and I create these for me…because we all can use a little rest. Especially when life gets so sticky and rushed, we have to be intentional to carve out self-care time and prioritize our self-love rituals…After all, if we don’t love ourselves well, we can’t love others well.

“Dear Sophia” Showing Skin = Feeling Sexy & Feeling Shame…an Advice Episode

Dear Sophia, I get more “likes” when I show “more skin,” but get shaming messages. What do I do?

Well, first let me say, I am not God, nor your intuition; but I can share my perspective on embracing your sensuality, creating art, sexualizing the female body, celebrating the female body, and shaming the female body…

So welcome to my first ADVICE Q&A EPISODE!

#LetMeEnlightenYou

As women, we are unfairly subjected to judgement for choosing to modify our bodies or abide naturally. As women, we are judged for being both too prude or for being too sexual.

Are you empowered by covering up or showing more skin?

Are you empowered by going natural or glamming up?

I don’t know about you, but I am here for it all. It just depends on my mood and my intuition.

Recently, a follower who was scared of losing her job for being “too sexy” emailed me and asked for advice…so I made a whole podcast episode sharing my perspectives on:

-Embracing all facets of your diamond, even your sexuality
-Feminine Embodiment
-The Judgement of Feminine Sensuality
-Intentional Modesty and Social Media
-Balancing being an “Good” Influence and being a “Real” Woman
-Handling male gaze and male-inflicted shame
-Choosing what to post or not post on social media
-Allowing God to guide us individually in “what’s appropriate”
-Balancing a professional and real image

My life journey and personal beliefs have led me to develop a unique opinion on these topics, and I hope it lends some perspective to you, whether you agree with my words or not. In the end, only God is our judge and only we know in our hearts if we are honoring God through honoring ourselves. Be blessed and feel loved regardless of whether your story or perspective aligns with mine!

Have a Q & want an A from me?

If you want me to share your question in my next advice episode, send me a concise, well crafted email (or submit an audio recording less than one minute long) at ContactSophiaSpallino@gmail.com — and your question just might be featured next!

I hope you benefit from ENLIGHTENED, the podcast by me, Sophia Spallino, an audible experience that leaves you feeling at peace, encouraged, and in touch with your soul.

What an Age Gap Relationship is REALLY Like with Natalie Workman — He’s 25 Years Older Than Me — Age Matters

Meet Natalie Workman, the the host of the Age Gap Realness podcast — a show that digs beneath the surface of what people assume age gap relationships are…Which is such important work to me because, just like Natalie, my boyfriend is over 25 years older than me.

What is an “age gap relationship”? A relationship that involves a large gap between the partners’ ages, in our cases over 25 years apart.

If you follow me on instagram (#ShamelessPlug @SophiaSpallino), you probably know am dating a very special fella, my sweetheart Robert Croak! What you might not have realized is that Robert is over 25 years older than me!  After falling in love last November, I felt super alone in this world of being a young, driven woman with an older man…it’s just not common and it’s sadly even looked down upon.

I feel like when people think of age gap relationships, they think of creepy, old guys with young, hot girls on a beach. That’s a far cry from age gap relationship real life. Most the time, it’s just like any other relationship real life, but this tainted perspective is all that’s popularized in traditional media, so I can’t blame anyone for their indoctrinated ideas. For the longest time, even though I knew the love between Robert and I is so special, pure, and real…I was afraid of what other people would assume.

Then I stumbled upon Natalie’s instagram and her Age-Gap focused podcast! Just like I share online, Natalie and her older fiancé Brandon, share so much of their lives through transparent instagram stories and podcasts. I saw there was a whole underworld of incredible people making power couple moves…all who happen to have age gaps!

While there are pros to being in an age gap relationship, there are trials that come with this lifestyle and partner choice. Natalie is an incredible, smart, and passionate girl that’s paving the way for other women to walk confidently if they so happen to be in our shoes. Walking side by side with a successful, older man are big shoes to fill, even though the world sees it as a walk down “easy street.” Believe me, Natalie would know because her fiancé, Brandon Dawson, is extremely prosperous and well-known in the business world…and that privilege comes with unique challenges. Through her blog and podcast show, Natalie is proving to the world that while LOVE IS AGELESS, AGE MATTERS, so we should live life to the fullest!

Although Natalie’s union with Brandon and my partnership with Robert isn’t “mainstream” yet, there are over 15 million other women out there dating older men too. So we aren’t alone as it may seem; we are just willing to live our lives out loud publicly. If I wouldn’t have stumbled upon Natalie’s show six months ago, I am not quite sure I would be as confident in sharing my relationship with my online audience as I am today. She’s not only shifting the perspective for women like me in age gap relationships, but how society views us as a group. In fact, I think in 20 years when more women stop playing around, trying to train boys and start dating real, grown men, Natalie will be credited for popularizing the age gap movement in a wholesome way that’s never been shown before. And I can’t thank her enough for displaying an honorable example of true, ageless love for the world to see.

Here are some of the hot topics Natalie and I discuss on Enlightened the Podcast:

-What are the some of unique challenges of being in an age gap relationship?
-What shifted your perspective to feel respected on your own?
-What advice would you give to a young woman who feels like college might not be for her, but feels pressure to go anyway?
-What’s your favorite thing about building an empire with Brandon Dawson? And what advice would you give to those who are thinking about working with their partners?
-Now rather than saying, “Age doesn’t matter,” one of your most popular quotes is “Age matters.” What do you mean?

How to Live BEAUTIFULLY Inside and Out with Celebrity Makeup Artist, Jessica Shakir

Sometimes, it takes a desert’s stillness for us to hear from God. If you are feeling isolated and in pain, use this time alone to ask God, “What next? Use me where I am, however you please.” This is what Jessica did. Now, she is helping women blossom around the world!

Meet my dear friend and celebrity makeup artist, Jessica Shakir! She has discovered how to live passionately and on purpose despite physical pain…and she is showing others how to live a beautiful life, both inside and out! She has the joy, peace, and love of someone who appears to have a “perfect life,” but Jessica’s world was turned upside down when her back problems became unbearable chronic pain overnight, and she realized she couldn’t live her bicoastal life as a makeup artist on sets everyday.

Instead of sulking in the realization of all the things she “couldn’t” do, she started praying about what she “could do.” God has used her time of physical rest to build an incredible new career — being a beauty coach! Jessica has a gifting to draw out each woman’s beauty, revealing the innate radiance within every woman she coaches.

I cherished our time chatting together because she is a women of dignity, wisdom, and kindness that effortlessly flows from her heart. Jessica is the creator of www.MyBeautyBFF.com, where she coaches women around the world, both online and through workshops. She’s using her experience as a celebrity makeup artist for good, to influence women to love themselves the way God made them! I call her my “beauty bff” because she is such an encourager, always giving me the pep talks just when I need them in her Instagram videos…and if you listen to this show, you will get a pep talk right now!

In this episode, she shares how to live beautifully inside an out…and how to choose to walk in purpose rather than shrink back into the pain. Here are some topics that we discuss:

What it is like to work with stars?
How can pain and seasons of waiting be used for a bigger purpose
Helping others actually helps heal you
What is “Beauty BFF”?
The way the fruits of the spirit align with beauty
